Which vital signs are detected?

Why are three vital signs measured?
Studies have shown that monitoring key vital signs together, including temperature, respiration and heart rate can predict if a patient has influenza (another respiratory disease) with 93% accuracy, compared to just doing temperature screening which only has a 65% correlation.
How is body temperature measured?
The Elenium Sensor Array detects temperature and has configurable parameters defining normal or fever conditions. Temperature sensing is achieved using a near-infrared camera and a thermal sensor. The near-infrared camera output determines the position of a person’s forehead in a frame. The location of the forehead, tear duct and temple are then mapped and provided to the thermal sensor. The risk of measuring the temperature from a different person is minimised and is not impacted by a foreign object such as a cup of coffee.
How is heart rate measured?
While normal heart rates vary, this information can be used in conjunction with other data points to drive a decision matrix model. The heart rate measurement is facilitated by using a near-infrared camera and a high resolution RGB camera. These cameras are able to detect the oxygenated haemoglobin in the blood flowing through vessels as it absorbs light from a specific wavelength. As a result, when the skin is exposed to continuous light of that wavelength, the reflected light changes according to variation in blood flow volume. The pulse waveform is the output that is obtained by continuing to measure reflected light. Our system uses the person’s face as the point of focus for the machine learning classifier.
How is respiration rate measured?
Respiration is measured by using a thermal image to detect nasal region temperature changes associated with breathing. During exhalation, warm air from inside the lungs is released and increasing the temperature in the nasal region, whereas during inhalation, cool air from the external environment is breathed in and lowering the temperature. The respiration waveform can be obtained by using a thermal camera and capturing a time series of a person as they breath in and out.
Does Elenium Vitals work with a face mask?
Heart rate and temperature evaluation can take place with a mask however to evaluate respiratory rate the respiration waveform must be obtained by using a thermal camera and capturing a time series of an individual as they breath in and out.
Why do we need touchless self-service?
The World Health Organization (WHO) highlights studies confirming contaminated hands can be vehicles for the spread of certain viruses and bacteria, noting that the organisms can survive on hands for up to 60 minutes and, in certain circumstances, up to three months.
How can the device be controlled?
Individuals can choose to interact as they feel comfortable or according to their physical ability with either voice, movement or mobile phone interaction.
How does voice recognition work?
Jointly developed by Amazon Web Services and Elenium for loud environments, our patent pending approach to voice recognition distinguishes voices in busy environments like airports, hospitals, or medical centres by combining multiple types of sensors, including proximity sensors, cameras and multiple directional microphones.
Can voice recognition work in loud environments?
How does movement detection work?
The patent pending head control technology uses a machine learning classifier to find a point of interest on a person face as an anchor point. When the user moves their head the cursor of the kiosk follows accordingly. The interaction is intuitive with no training required by the user.
Can interaction be managed via a mobile phone?
Yes, with our BYOD function, individuals engage and complete the health declaration questionnaires using their own devices . Vital sign detection is performed on arrival at the premises. Biometric facial recognition and contactless ID scanning is supported as an option.

What questions can be asked?
The solution offers the ability to include a question/answer process as part of the access control process during Covid 19. These questions can be configured based on your own requirements. Questions typically focus on recent travel history and generic health questions.
What happens if an individual displays symptoms of illness?
As an option high quality video conferencing can support remote agent interaction or an on-site medical expert could be alerted. The Elenium Sensor Array provides high quality video and voice teleconferencing. Amazon Chime is a communications service used to power real time remote communication scalable over an internet connection. It enables migration of telephony workloads to AWS. AWS Voice Connector supports inbound calling and outbound calling.

Where is Elenium Vitals manufactured?
How has Elenium Vitals been tested?
Elenium Vitals has been extensively tested in our R&D Lab in Melbourne. Additionally it has been tested in a variety of environmental scenarios, indoors and out. In the field it is currently in use in Airports and Hospitals.
How are fluctuations of ambient temperature controlled?
Changes in ambient temperature during operations caused by environmental factors can dramatically affect the reading. Elenium Vitals measures changes to ambient conditions and applies a compensating calculation to the result. The thermal sensor is housed within a protective thermal barrier that minimises the impact of changes to ambient conditions.
How is Elenium Vitals calibrated?
Elenium Vitals continually self-calibrates by using “healthy persons” as the reference point for ongoing calibration. This approach conforms with FDA approved methods for calibration and drift adjustments ensuring ongoing accuracy once in the field.
What is the thermal camera resolution?
The resolution is 384×288 providing a high resolution sensor able to achieve high specificity, meaning it detects more temperature points on a person’s face including tear ducts, forehead and temple.
Does Elenium Vitals comply with any standards?
Yes, compliant with ISO IEC 80601-2-59 standard for thermographic febrile skin detection.
How close does an individual need to be to the device?
Temperature can be determined within a 2-3mm facial area of interest from 0.5meters.
Where can Elenium Vitals be used?
This solution can be used in numerous locations, indoors and out including airports, hospitals, care homes, public buildings, office blocks and at outdoor events.
Can Elenium Vitals be used with my existing self-service devices?
The touchless and vital sign modules, working separately or together are combined into an Elenium Sensor array. It works on Elenium devices as well as on self-service devices from other providers. We have designed it for easy integration.
Can the device be moved around?
Yes, a ruggedised suitcase can house the solution, ideal for outdoors conditions like access control to building sites or mines and Elenium Vitals can be delivered as a portable kiosk with hot swappable battery or desktop podium.
Where is Elenium Vitals currently being used?
The solution is currently deployed at Abu Dhabi Airport, several hospitals across Australia and America. Elenium Touchless is currently deployed at Avalon Airport.

How is an individuals privacy respected?
Elenium Vitals and AWS hold no identifiable personal data. Our solution is designed to work with the data requirements of the customer and all data would be held by the customer as per their agreed and published privacy process, regional regulations and country law.
